Madhubani art, originated in the Mithila region of Bihar. The eye-catching geometrical patterns used in it, form the essence of any Madhubani painting. 

Initially these paintings were categorized into five different styles, 

Tantrik, 

Kohbar, 

Bharni, 

Godna and,

Katchni. 

But now, these have been merged by contemporary artists.
