I wanted to ask her if she were okay,
if the world had yet poisoned her soul,
and merely looking through her eyes I could see,
she was everything but okay.
It made me realize, back then,
how pathetic and weak I really am,
for I remember a day not too far where I stood high and promised to bring the world at her feet, and here I am now, on my knees,
watching helpless as the world slowly ravages the only soul I’ve truly loved.
Oh life, how cruel in your judgement you are, how clever in your cruelty,
for you have not broken her soul once,
but mine twice.
